Training at the heart of Opportunity for Women’s vocation

Overview of Opportunity for Women's impact

Opportunity for Women helps many women across Southeast Asia to live their passion through its collaboration in the development of weaving programs. Through its activities, our association acts positively on the environment, employment but also education, while allowing the conservation of local practices to obtain eco-responsible cushions with ethnic and authentic patterns.

Training at the heart of our approach

Opportunity for Women, whose vocation is to help the development of ethnic minorities, and more specifically women, we want to contribute to the improvement of programs and their opening to the world. To do this, we are developing a training kit that adapts to each group of women weavers in order to preserve the originality of the patterns but also the different local cultures. These tailor-made traveling training courses allow the learning of effective and responsible weaving and natural dyeing techniques!

Among the various programs supported, 7 women from the Lao ethnic group have set up a weaving cooperative (Na sang) thanks to a local branch of Entrepreneurs du Monde (ACE) and Opportunity for Women.

Who am I?

As a student at Fulbright University in Vietnam, I am interning for the Social Impact Fellowship Program which offers me the opportunity to accompany Opportunity for Women and Anh Chi Em (ACE). This summer, my mission is to help develop the Lao ethnic weaving program in the Dien Bien province but also to help empower and energize the poorest ethnic groups in order to make them grow socially. I am very happy to be part of the team!

What is my mission?

I am in charge of three key points:

-Improve the quality of textiles

-Reassure and study the environmental impact of the production process

-Help to implement a social entrepreneurship model with the weavers.

Dien Bien is a beautiful mountainous area in the northwest of Vietnam. The main city is surrounded by mountains, which makes access to the market difficult and isolates the most vulnerable. This weaving project is a beautiful solution to connect this ethnic group to the rest of the world through their traditional fabrics.

Chau's presence will allow this cooperative to continue to develop thanks to funding from the Agir Sa Vie foundation!
