The K'Ho or C'Ho minorities

The K'Ho people are originally from the Da Lat region in central Vietnam.

The K'Ho minorities originate from Langbian, a mountain near Dalat in Vietnam. This mountain is famous for its legend: Lang, son of the chief of the lat tribe and Bian, daughter of the chief of the Chil tribe were in love but from different minorities, therefore not allowed to marry, they killed each other in the mountain. In memory of this couple the mountain was named Langbian and inter-ethnic marriages were allowed. Several subgroups make up the K'Ho: K'ho Srê, K'ho T'ring, K'ho Nộp, K'ho Chil, K'ho Lách (which gave their name to the city of Da lat), K'ho Dòn... who all have fairly similar languages.

The K'Ho are a matriarchal society with a reputation as warriors.

The K'ho are matrilineal, women are heads of households and give their family name to their children. When she gets married, the woman gives a buffalo to her husband's family and other gifts: rings, necklaces, hand-woven sarongs. ..

They were known for their strength because being taller, they had built a reputation as warriors and other minorities called on them to defend them. Only single men fought and often when they left to defend another tribe they stayed there and married a woman from that ethnic group. The K'Ho therefore developed weaving less than other minorities.

Traditional K'Ho fabrics are navy blue with white patterns.

The cults of the K'Ho or C'Ho minorities

They worship the gods of nature: the god of the forest, which is why they do not cut down “living” trees for fear of reprisals and respect it, the god of the sun to whom they dance, etc. In each village a totem was the symbol of communication between the gods and men.

They believe in a dreamland after death where they continue to work but live a peaceful life with all their family members. They are buried in a white sheet (woven of course) in mango wood, which will serve as a boat to access this “Wonderland”.

The cuisine of the K'Ho or C'Ho minorities

Among the typical dishes: we find buffalo eaten at funerals (everything is cooked, the blood, the skin, etc.), pork salted then dried outside, fish marinated in lemon and a very spicy sauce... Each celebration has its own dish!
