Giving Burmese women a future and promoting local know-how.
YounSone is a sewing workshop in Yangon (capital of Myanmar) which highlights fabrics from different ethnic groups: Kachin, Kayar, Chin, Naga, Rahkine and Shan.
YounSone was born from the observation that it is not enough to provide training to disadvantaged young people but that it is important to allow them access to employment.
In Myanmar, in the context of civil war, women have even fewer opportunities for education and employment. They are further marginalized. Many of them migrate illegally to work and take on dangerous jobs or become victims of human trafficking. YounSone trains them and provides them with stable and sustainable employment. Some join the team full-time and can develop new skills. Others work from home and can take care of their families while earning a steady income and avoiding long and costly transportation.

CreationYounSone was created in 2018 to offer training and jobs to disadvantaged young women while promoting traditional know-how.
-
Maintaining know-howMost of the fabrics are hand-woven and embroidered. In each village, there are men and women who still master this know-how. Young people tend to abandon these activities which are not necessarily valued by the modern world
-
Fair payWe buy our fabrics from women in poor villages or refugee camps (many people have been displaced by civil wars in the north of the country). We strive to pay a fair price. We are keen to preserve local practices, such as natural dyes.
YounSone employs 4 women full-time and provides a regular income to around ten seamstresses. A large number of weavers thus find outlets for their production.

YounSone's turnover increases every year thanks to local sales and sales in Europe. The team develops many partnerships and constantly innovates to face difficult situations. The very wide range of products allows the seamstresses to progress regularly. They also have the opportunity to learn and practice English and engage in administrative tasks that grow with the development of the business.
The next challenge is B2B sales. Thanks to OFW's network, YounSone will equip the 75 rooms of a hotel in Toulouse. https://www.sanghahotels.com/
A major challenge is to help weavers improve the traceability of their fabrics.
