A story of encounters

In 2018, Yvonne Mathys-Hereng met Julia Naw , a young Burmese woman determined to help women in her country by promoting the country's rich craftsmanship. From this meeting, the Youn Sone workshop was born, which allows Burmese weavers and seamstresses to make a living from their expertise.

At the same time, Lucie Tailhades and Marie Van Haecke created weavers' cooperatives in Vietnam and Laos and sold their products through the Trend Ethics association.

In 2019, Lucie, Marie and Yvonne met in Myanmar and began to collaborate more and more.

In 2023, they created Opportunity For Women together to further promote traditional know-how through contemporary creations and make them known in France and Europe.

In 2025, a new phase begins with the creation of Opportunity For Women Development , a general interest association, financed solely by donations. Its mission: to develop education, entrepreneurship and empowerment projects to enable each woman supported to become an actor in her future.

“I have a deep desire to help these women move towards greater autonomy, to carry out their projects, to be able to choose their lives.”

Yvonne Mathys Hereng
Co-founder and President of Opportunity for Women, shares with us the reasons for this commitment.
