A sewing project that fits into a social and human context

Younsone is a Burmese social enterprise . In 2019, Julia Naw took the risk to realize her dream that she had been nurturing for 7 years: to create a social enterprise that helps disadvantaged young women and to highlight the traditional know-how . Her dream came true through the name Younsone which means “ colorful ” in the Burmese language. Through this name, Julia Naw associated the diversity of cultures, religions, ethnicities and traditions that Burma offers us.

Julia Naw cares about her people, the poor and our planet. Coming from a disadvantaged background herself, she wants to offer jobs that take workers care and also of our environment . Julia tells us that many people in her environment have no choice but to work in companies with little ethics and little respect for the planet. In order to survive, they may be forced to emigrate illegally, have dangerous jobs or become victims of human trafficking.

Younsone's beginnings

Rocked by a love of her country, her culture, motivated by the observation of a lack, Julia Naw offers a concrete response by surrounding herself with the right people who can help her: the international Fondacio movement . This movement aims to build a more humane and fairer world.

After several training courses to acquire the right skills, Julia Naw created this social enterprise around sustainable fashion. The goal is to allow everyone to be autonomous while respecting our planet, cultures and traditions.

And Opportunity for Women in all this?

There are several ethnic groups in Burma and we work with the Kayan ethnic group who are present in the East of Burma. The cotton is grown on site and spun. The dyes are made on site using local colours. These women weave the Tebui collection with a traditional "back-strap" method: the weaver sits on the ground or weaves on a loom.
